Hello Folks  : )

Sal****er Flyfishing in the heavy Surf faces me with some serious questions which I´ve had never to answer before.

The choice of the fly line ins one mistery which I cannot solve.

Using a floating line puts some waves from the surf in the flyline which makes strike detection difficult?

Using a sinking line on the other hand is just asking for troubles.  There are thousands of things were the line can snag?

What is the Solution?

Tight Lines

Sorry about the delay.  I was hoping my instructor/guide would respond.  The answer to your situation (as best as I can give you) is line control.  The fly needs to be moving fast enough that there is little slack in the line.  When the fly flails around too much, there are more chances to snag down toward the bottom or lose feeling of a strike when on top.

I highly recommend playing around with different lengths of tungsten shooting heads.  You need to figure out which length will give you the best combination of castability and line control.

Enjoy your surf fishing!

If a person is to be fixated on anything, fly fishing is the way to go. Unlimited room for growth, it soothes the soul and the destinations are limitless. The only sport I know of where we can have as much fun taking brookies from a piddley little creek or chasing steelhead in BC. business insurance
