The Justinator and I fished the North Fork of the American River at the Iowa Hill Access. We were able to land one each. We also LDR'd (long distance release) a few fish. The hot flies were #16 Mercer's Micromay, #14 Hare's Ear, and #16 Split Case PMD. The river is loaded with caddis, PMD and BWO mayflies, and golden stoneflies.
The river is flowing slightly high, but it is very fishable. There was one run that I saw three fish at the bottom of the pool. They weren't hungry for what we had to offer. The North Fork isn't very large water, so it makes it perfect for a 4 weight. A big fish is 12", but I have caught a few 16" fish there in the past.
