Here is a size #12 Golden Stonefly tied on a TMC 5263 hook. I used mottled oak Thin Skin from Wapsi with 3X Mono as the ribbing and Wind River Mottled Golden Stone Dubbing for the body and thorax. A few pheasant tail strands for legs on each side and call it done.
Next time, I will turn the vice light away from the fly so it is not as "shiny". I did not notice until I downloaded the photo from the camera to the computer.
Hey Freedog! If you tie that in a size 8 or larger, try using a TMC 200R. I think that you will like the effect on the curved shank. I personally like using the 5263 for the smaller sizes, like you used, because there is enough gape in the hook for a proper hookset.
Let me know when Sally season hits the EC. I'll be there lickity split. Make sure you tie up some of those stonefly nymphs in that Sally color, too!
