The Hale Bop Leech is a leech pattern that uses angora dubbing that is picked out. It can be tied full, or it can be tied sparse. I prefer the latter. It makes a great lake fly, but it also makes a great swing fly. For a leech, the Hale Bop is tied on a smaller hook (size 10 or 12). I like tying it on a Partridge Klinkhamer hook. I think the wider gape hooksets better than standard gapes.
Recipe: Hook: TMC 5263 (size 10 or 12), TMC 200R (size 10 or 12), Partridge Klinkhamer (shown, size 12) Weight: Beadhead with 3 wraps of .020" lead to secure Thread: Color to match Tail: Marabou Body: Angora tied in a dubbing loop, spun forward, and picked Collar: Red flat waxed nylon thread.
